PARENT RESOURCES

What is an IEP?

IEP refers to a child's Individual Education Plan. These IEP's are made when a learning difficulty has been identified. Teachers, parents, and student meet together to figure out how to respond to these learning challenges. The idea is that with different teaching methods, the child can learn more, the parents are made aware of needs that they may help with, and the teachers can facilitate a better learning environment.

There is no shame in having a learning difficulty any more than one should be ashamed he or she has to wear eye glasses or has diabetes. Many learning difficulties originate in that being just the way we are wired. Talking together and working together to find a way to help the child learn is the most important thing.
