Koch Elementary School will be holding another pick up day for student locker and desk contents, as well as additional learning materials. The pickup line will run from 7:30 am – 4:00 pm on Monday, April 6 in the back parking lot next to the Koch School gym. A staff member will greet you as you pull up and your child’s work and belongings will be brought out to you. Please hold on to your child's completed work until school resumes. As a reminder, ms and hs students should be into their course work and communicating with their teachers. Good Afternoon. Tomorrow is the day we roll out our distance education! It has been a lot of work the past few days to get this rolled out. A new item for tomorrow is that we have boxed up all lockers 6-12. Please stop tomorrow between 7:30 and 4:00 to pick up locker materials in the high school. Come to the front door and we will go get your box for you. Again, Koch Elementary student's packets can be picked up tomorrow from 7:30-4 as well. Information for your students can be found on the school website. Thank you.
Good afternoon. We have been given direction by the Governor that school will be closed until May 1st. The South Dakota High School Activities Association has suspended all practices and games through May 3rd as well.
Here is our current plan:
Distance education is set to start on Thursday of this week. Koch Elementary will have pick-up available on Thursday from 7:30-4:00 for instructional packets. Please check the Milbank School District website under the Koch Elementary tab for all learning plans. These will be updated in two week increments. We will plan another pick-up on April 6th for materials. Your child’s specific classroom teacher will be communicating via their preferred communication resource.
Middle School Plans
Students will be able to access their weekly learning plans by logging into their Google account and see the shared learning plans the teachers have created as well as link on our MS webpage. These plans will be updated regularly at least weekly with expectations, assignments, activities, and due dates. Those who indicated they need a device or a paper copy will be able to pick them up this Thursday at our set pick up times.
High School Plans
High school students will be receiving an email from their teachers. The students will find all their work on schoology and in some cases Google Docs. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your teacher. Seniors in need of credit recovery will be contacted.

Our staff is working vigorously to begin a distance learning environment for our students. More information will be provided tomorrow. Thank you for responding to the phone calls placed today as an effort to gather information on how to best educate our students during this time of closure. We do not have any new information from Governor Noem at this time. This situation changes hourly, it seems. We will provide more information as it is made available. Another update will be made tomorrow evening on specific information for distance learning. Thank you!
Good Evening, this is superintendent Justin Downes of the Milbank School District. If you have not heard, Governor Noem announced yesterday that we will be suspending school again next week. I want to ensure you that the meal service will continue throughout the duration of the school closure. In addition to the sites in town and the mobile sites, the backpack program has dropped off their supplies at the high school.
Our administrative team is working hard to develop a plan for a distance learning effort. We will be making phone calls on Monday to ask about things like internet service and devices available to the students. This will help guide our distance instruction in the case that the closures continue for great lengths of time. We will do our best to update as often as we get information from the Governor. This situation remains very fluid and can change by the hour. We hope that our students and families continue to take steps to protect themselves during this time.
Thank you,
